So you and your love are stuck in isolation. You can’t make your way to your favourite bar for wine and pizza on a Friday like you usually would, or venture out on any other date night. But that doesn’t mean your date nights are over! Isolation just means we need to get a little bit creative when it comes to a special night with our boo. Having trouble thinking of ideas? Don’t worry, we are here to share with you a few of our faves!
So you both consider yourselves wine connoisseurs and miss escaping off to the Yarra Valley for a wine tour. No problem! Why not set one up through your house. Buy a few bottles of your favourite wines and set them up in different rooms. While you’re at it light some candles and play your favourite music. Have some fun with it and discuss what you like about each wine. Either ironically for a laugh or in a serious way, whatever floats your boat! You’ll laugh together as you make your way through all the different “winery estates” and you may even forget you’re in your own house.
There are so many amazing local businesses creating DIY art and craft sets that you can do in the comfort of your home. Always wanted to try a pottery class together? Why not buy a pottery kit and have some fun together attempting to craft your own mugs or vessels. It’s a great way to learn a new skill with your love and have some fun! The amazing Bisque Studios located in Northcote have created ‘Build at Home’ sets that you can order online. So jump and have a look here and support an epic small business. If you aren’t sure if this is the romantic night for you, cast your memory back to the movie Ghost and tell me that pottery isn’t hot stuff.
Get back to nature
For the couple who thrive together out in nature and are going slightly insane inside the four walls of their home, this is a treat! If you are missing camping nights spent under the stars why not crack out your tent and blow up mattress, and camp in your own backyard. Literally. The fresh air will do you wonders. Plus from inside the tent who is to say you aren’t down in The Ottoway’s or on a beautiful mountain somewhere.
Ready, steady, cook!
Why not set yourselves up for a culinary challenge by picking some random ingredients and creating a delicious dinner together. The idea of not going in with a set recipe and working with ingredients you might not usually pick gets you both thinking out of the box. It will get you working together to create something extra tasty! Too many cooks in the kitchen? Why not have one person tackle dinner and the other dessert. That way you both get a surprise tasting what the other has created with their mystery ingredients.
You might not be able to go to your favourite restaurants during this time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy their food! So many amazing restaurants through Melbourne are doing virtual masterclasses to recreate some of their signature dishes. The delicious Atlas in South Yarra is bringing you weekly live masterclasses with the option for ingredient deliveries, so you don’t even need to leave the house! They tackle a different countries cuisine each week, so crack open a bottle of wine and tune in together. Who knows, you might even enjoy your creation more! After all it was made with love.
Jump on the Tik Tok bandwagon
Ok, hear me out. While before isolation Tik Tok pretty much made anyone over the age of 20 cringe. Since we have all been stuck in our homes a few have ventured to the other side. At first for a laugh but now we realise, hey this is actually kind of fun. So why not bond together by creating a Tik Tok. You don’t need to show anyone, it can be your little secret. But trust me when I say you will have so much fun trying to figure it out. Need some Inspo? Head to our Tik Tok page here.
Visit some of the worlds best galleries
While you may not be able to fly to Europe, you can still experience some of the most incredible galleries from the comfort of your lounge. During this isolation time, many of the worlds famous galleries are providing virtual tours. So sip some wine and swoon over the work of Van Gogh and Monet. Feel like jetting to France? Visit the Louvre here! Or if you’re missing your monthly trips to the NGV why not try one of their virtual tours here. Fun tip, they are also doing ‘Drop By‘ virtual drawing classes with some amazing artists!
Why not indulge and treat yourselves to something delicious to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. Try baking together or ordering from one of your local small businesses! What could be better than sitting together and cutting yourselves a slice of pure heaven while watching one of your favourite movies. That’s a date idea that I can definitely get around!
