So you’re considering a Sunday wedding, that’s amazing news! We love, love, love a Sunday wedding and think they are the hidden gem of the wedding world. To help convince you we have put together some reasons why we think Sunday is the best day to tie the knot!
You get the pick of the best
With Sunday being most couples 3rd choice over a Friday or Saturday, suppliers and venues will typically have plenty of availability for a Sunday wedding. This gives you the pick of the pile when it comes to suppliers in your area! You will also find getting quotes and confirmations is a lot quicker as most wedding vendors LOVE a Sunday wedding – they are unique and a blast to be a part of!
Save some moolah
Less desirable = more savings for you! With an off peak date you may have access to off peak rates (if the vendor has them, some may not!). You also are in a great position to negotiate some savings with your suppliers. Some vendors do run on small margins so don’t be surprised if you aren’t able to get everything discounted, but it pays to try your luck! Then you can direct your savings to other areas of your wedding – or maybe your honeymoon 🥰
Open up a world of catering possibilities!
“If I was to get married again (to the same husband!) I would definitely go for a brunch and cocktail bar wedding! I love how fun and interactive they are, and everyone can get what they want to eat – and we all know breakfast food is the best food!” – Ebhlin, Sales Coordinator for Nudo.
Picture this; waffle topping stations, breakfast buffets, build a bloody mary bar, mimosas all around! It’s enough to get any wedding guest excited! The trick is to find a caterer that embraces your vision! Not a breakfast person? Have a late lunch! Everything is on the menu! Embrace food trucks, get grilling, or just offer some light refreshments. There’s no rules with a Sunday wedding!
Turn your wedding day into an all weekend affair
When your wedding is on a Sunday you typically will have your out of town guests coming for the whole weekend. This is a great opportunity to spend some time with your family and friends outside of the whirl of your wedding day. Rehearsal dinners are typically just for close family and the wedding party, but why not have a BBQ and invite more guests around once the formalities are over? Or have your hens and stags nights on the friday night, leaving plenty of time for recovery for the Sunday. This will save your close friends and family having to travel to your area twice in the same month.
Throw out the rule book
There are no guest expectations when it comes to a Sunday wedding, so go ahead and do what you want! Don’t want to have dinner or lunch? So long as your wedding isn’t in these traditional serving times you can easily get away with it – just offer some light refreshments! If you aren’t interested in having a party, look at having a pianist and cocktail food to set the scene of a more cozy affair! Even the formalities of a cocktail hour, or cutting the wedding cake, can be altered (or removed) to fit your style – It’s your day so make it yours!
Forget the wait time
Traditionally couples will have to wait over a year, sometimes two, to tie the knot in their dream venue. Friday and Saturday dates typically sell out a year in advance so you could be searching a long time for your Saturday in April wedding date to come (especially as there are only 4 of these a year!). But as Sunday is not the first pick for the general public you can usually have the best of dates and venues – lucky you! This means you can get married as soon, or as late, as you want to!
Have your photos done your way
During a traditional wedding there is a very limited amount of time portrait shots can be taken. They are either done during the cocktail hour (quickly as you want to be with your guests!), or the couple may have opted for a first look before the ceremony. As a Sunday wedding is run to a more relaxed timeline, you can choose to have as many (or as little) photo sessions as you like!
Will Campbell, our co-founder and pro wedding photographer has this to say about Sunday photos: “If you are having a lunchtime wedding there is a great time to get portraits that you may not have considered- after the guests have left! If you have a friend that’s handy with a makeup brush that can give you a little touch up, you can get some amazing and relaxed photos when the sun is at its very best for lighting! All the nerves and pressure of the day is done so you can have some fun with your photos, then join your guests later at the after-party!”
But what about our guests?
The biggest argument we see against a Sunday wedding is the couple worrying about their guests. It is always important to consider your guests comfort, but the reality is for most out-of-town guests they will have to take a Friday off for a Saturday wedding to travel to the area, so taking a Monday off is no big deal! Plus bosses are far more likely to approve leave for a Monday than a Friday, as most people ask for Fridays off!
The after-party 💃
Let’s face it, after a day of wedding business not everybody is going to be up for partying into the night. But for those of you who love a good party, a great way to bring that party atmosphere into a Sunday wedding is to hold an after-party. Put down a bar tab in the hotel that you are staying at, then you can dip away with your new wife/husband when you have done all the dancing you can do! And your guests that want to keep going can do so!
